Mini Craft Talks by new members, Carol Martin and husband, J.B. This was really just a “hello” to the Club and brief introduction. Carol and JB lived in San Diego for 25 years and were members of Toastmasters. They moved to Windsor in Dec. 2015 and they enjoy traveling. Maybe the most significant announcement came from JB who asked if there was someone in the Club who had gone to Berkeley (of course, that’s our long time member, Ken Moulton, who likes to say “Go Bears!” ) Turns out that JB went to Stanford – so we have another in-Club rivalry of college football teams.
Introduction of Visiting Rotarians:
Michael Juric had the privilege of introducing our international guest:
From the Rotary Club of La LouViere in France (near the Brussels border) in the classification of Aviation, we welcomed Charlez Eric.
Introduction of Guests of Rotarians:
Steve Jorgensen introduced Bill Adams, on the School Board, who was careful not to take a position, but offered us information only on Measure F.
Steve also introduced Stephanie Ahmad, formerly of Cali , and Deanna Reis, also from Cali, who are founding members of the Puente Education Foundation, which is bridging the gap between public funding and the educational needs of youth. Stephanie is Vice President and Founding Board Member, and Deanna is Board Member of Puente.
Joe Deacon introduced his brother-in-law, Frank Cesar, from Glenwood Springs, Colorado (near Aspen) who is visiting and enjoying the Sonoma County sunshine, since he comes from snow country.
Joe also introduced our speaker for the day, Jon Stout, Manager of Sonoma County Airport.

Steve Klick reported on the Rotary Foundation Dinner South which he attended. It was a celebration of the 100 year anniversary of the Rotary Foundation. Since our Club creation, District 5130 (including matching grants) has contributed over $1 million toward the eradication of polio. Our Club member, John Hackenberg, and his wife, Jean, were recognized for contributing over $50,000 to the Rotary Foundation during their Rotary life.
Raffle – it’s a big pot – $729! Dave Koch’s ticket was pulled but he was unable to find the Raider helmet, so the pot grows.
Program Speaker – Sonoma County Airport Manager Jon Stout
Introduced by our own George Johnston, who volunteers as a “Lucy” information booth helper at the airport, Jon gave us all the numbers of the airport expansion and answered the many questions from the audience.
Our Sonoma County Airport is on track to serve 320,000 passengers in 2016.
Horizon, a division of Alaska Air, is our main airline. Santa Rosa contributes 6-1/2% of the total capacity of Horizon Air.
Our airport currently serves seven destinations: Seattle, Portland, Orange County, Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas and Phoenix.
There is discussion of United adding service to San Francisco airport as an add-on. When first asked whether we would favor it, the Club was almost silent. But it depended on cost, and when Jon said it could be as low as $20-$50, we were all in!
Jon showed architectural renderings of the proposed terminal enhancement project, Phases I and II, which may eventually include jetways from terminal to airplane.
Steve Klick, filling in for President John who had to leave early, ended the meeting by asking us all to “Go out and do something Rotary.”
