Speaker:
JB Leep introduced Dave Hamelburg a presenter to the student’s on the importance of education and entrepreneurship. Owner of Boomerang Plus.
The zoom presentation started pretty shakily, we could not see or hear the speaker, when the video appeared we were only seeing the bottom half of the speaker’s face, he sounded sick, distracted, and not prepared. I am sure I was not alone thinking, this is not going to go well, who is this guy? Suddenly, Dave corrected the camera, pulled off his baseball cap & wig, stated he felt better, and started his presentation.
The point demonstrated and expressed was the perception of the messenger, Dave shared that after his first presentation to students as a “teacher” he realized students mainly snoozed through his presentation. Dave discovered by mocking student behavior: being late, unprepared, chewing gum, he gained the attention of the students, even having students tell him they could not understand him because of him chewing gum. Dave is dedicated to sharing the importance of education and providing an opportunity to learn about becoming an entrepreneur.
His goal is to get students excited about learning & school, connecting them with business people of various fields, and demonstrating to them that when you give you get back; Boomerang effect. Dave does roughly 10 presentations for juniors & seniors a year. He has also created a Shark Tank for students. The shark tank program is supported by students in various cores at the school, at Windsor High School, the culinary department provided soup & salad, & the Arts & Media core did the video of the program. All programs have been performed on zoom during the pandemic.
Contact Dave if interested in being an adult shark.
Dave has been communicating with Raley’s in Windsor to occupy an unused space at the store where the students could create a student-run Art Store, Toy Store, T-shirt making & more and create a wall to display a shark tank demo.
Questions:
- Heather Cullen ask who will be supervising the student store and ask if volunteers were needed? She also inquired about including information about agriculture and husbandry.
- Dave said details on the store are being worked and yes to needing volunteers and yes to husbandry, however, stated that they would careful about the products they offered to keep a balance with Raley’s products.
- Wally commented he felt there should be more awareness of this program, social media, and local TV.
If you are interested in participating in Boomerang Plus or would like more information you are welcome to contact Dave.
