Speaker for the day: Sue Ingles Finan- lives in Sonoma County, talking about her book- “The Cards don’t Lie”
Sue was an American History teacher as well as math.
She spent 18 years researching and writing this book with the help of her husband Jim being her aide, researching and critiquing, and helping her find all the facts of the war of 1812 and up to 1814, that talks about New Orleans and Andrew Jackson.
Women in the early 1800’s that helped soldiers during the war, and one card reader that predicted things about the war.
Important women included:
*Catherine-a woman of color that was wealthy, was a healer and took care of dysentery of Andrew Jackson
*Margarite-was a leader of women, and used Catherine for herbs to heal injured soldiers
*Millie-a prostitute, that volunteers to pick up soldiers from the battlefield…befriends a pirate!
all of these women had combined talents to aide and care for injured soldiers during the war, in fact,
multiple wars of the time.
Sue gave a great video presentation of her book, and also had books to sell, as well as autographing them herself.
Thanks for all that came to the meeting today, it was a small but engaged group. Here’s to the next!!
