ROTARY CLUB OF WINDSOR MEETING – September 4, 2018
Opening – The meeting was officially opened by President Sandy Krutz at 7:30 am followed by the pledge of allegiance lead by Daniel Myers.
Inspiration – The inspiration was given by Susan Cole who quoted from Luna, “Yesterday I was clever and wanted to change the world and today I am wise and want to change myself”.
Warm Up Activity – Pegi Ball provided leadership for a “Cool Down Activity”. She asked the crowd to pretend they were a puppet and all the strings tied to you were released…let it all hang loose. Now take a deep breath say hello to your neighbor on each side.
Guests – The following guests were introduced:
Chirs Landwehr introduced Rotarian Tony Landreau from the Petaluma Rotary who announced the Petaluma River Craft Beer Festival to be held on Saturday, September 15 in Historic Downtown Petaluma.
Other guests included Larry Wasem introducing Baby Abigail. J.B. introduced our Exchange Student, Satoshi who had a big weekend attending movies on Friday, a Cal football game on Saturday, sailing on Sunday and a pool party on Monday. The highlight was, of course, the Cal football game…his first ever.
Susan Cole reintroduced Dave Culley owner of the American Kitchen in Windsor. Pam Moulton introduced the Raley’s manager, Sam and our own Zack (now employed by Raley’s). The Grand Opening will be September 12 with all in the Club invited.
Announcements
Rotary Rug Readers – Susan Cole passed around a sign-up sheet for the first Rotary Rug Readers opportunity to read to first graders at Cali Calmecca on the new rugs purchased with the years District Grant money. The reading will take place next Tuesday from 1:00 – 2:30 pm. Please sign up for future opportunities.
Music on the Green – Bev Graham announced that this Thursday is the last night of the season for Music on the Windsor Green. Beatle music will be featured and all money raised in the Rotary bar will be going to support International Projects for this year. A special thanks to Jack Hyde for his many efforts in supporting this project.
Political Forums – Sandy Krutz reminded the Club that we will be dark on Tuesday, September 25 in order to host a Town Council Candidates Forum that evening at 5:15 pm. This forum will take place of the regular meeting. All members are encouraged to attend. A School Board Candidate Forum will also be held at the October 9 meeting.

Fines and Acknowledgements
Leah Hansen was the “fine master” and recognized the following Rotarians:
Larry Wasem was recognized for being quoted in the Press Democrat. Daniel Myers was fined for not wearing his badge. Dennis Wilkinson was recognized for his recent golf trip and vacation to Denver. Maureen Merrill was also acknowledged for a recent birthday that she rode on her bicycle 66 kilometers for her 66 years.

Rotary Flag Icons
Tom Boylan surveyed the audience to get suggestions on the design of a new Rotary Club Flag. There is a need to redesign the flag and club members offered some of the following icons as possible suggestions: hot air balloon, music, town green, regional parks, schools, hiking, farmer market, wine, friendly/playful town, Charles Schultz Airport, and Snoopy.
Windsor Rotary Community Foundation
Ed Turner reported out on the status of the Windsor Rotary Community Foundation (aka John Lewis Foundation). He discussed the origin of the foundation in 1991 with the idea proposed by Carl Wiuff. Club donations have grown this fund to over $340,000. The goal has been to grow this community foundation to $500,000 and then to use the interest to fund local community projects. Ed encouraged members to go to automatic deductions of $10 a month to achieve this goal.
Foundation Update
Foundation Chairperson Glenda Sales updated the Club on the progress oF RI Foundation giving. She provided background on the origin of the Foundation with the first donation made by Rotarian Art Klumph. Glenda encouraged all members to get involved in their estate planning and dedicate a $1000 in order to become a Rotary Benefactor. Pegi Ball was invited up and presented her fourth Paul Harris recognition.
Community Service Update
Community Chairperson Carol Martin provided an update on the status of Community Service programs for the Club. Carol discussed current expenditures and assets and the programs being funded by our Club for the current year. She also provided information on the current goals for the 2018-19 Rotary year. These goals included: survey members, more hands-on projects, identify a major project for the year and report to the Club quarterly on the progress of current commitments.
Closing
President Sandy Krutz closed the meeting with thanking guests, reminding the Club that “Pinwheels for Polio” were on sale and that the goal for funding Polio this year is $5000.
Next weeks speaker will be author Susan Hagen that recently wrote the book “Women of Ground Zero”…very appropriate for our Tuesday meeting on 9/11.
